For almost a decade the Kauai Historical Society sponsored walking tours of Kapa’a conducted by Marie Fifield and retired Kauai Community College history professor Andrew Bushnell receiving enthusiastic comments e.g. “the best $20 spent on my trip.” While Dr. Bushnell ceased giving these tours a years ago we still receives calls weekly requesting the tour. With the changing demographics, dramatic economic and social changes in Kapa’a, and preference for self-directed content, we seek to develop a mobile app providing the history of Kapa’a via images, text, and audio narrative content based on GPS coordinates for residents and visitors.
Funds are needed to meet a matching $10,000 grant from the Atherton Family Foundation for this project to engage Koa IT the developers of the award winning Lana’i Guide App to create this app in collaboration with the community.
